Resources

The North Saskatchewan Watershed Alliance (NWSA) offers many resources for those interested in water monitoring. The WaterSHED Monitoring Program is a unique partnership between Alberta Environment and Parks, EPCOR, North Saskatchewan Watershed Alliance and the City of Edmonton. ERVCC invites you to explore this page which includes video cams and time lapse images.

All of EPCOR’s data is on DataStream and all of AEPA’s data is on their portal. A helpful resource is the Environmental Quality Guidelines for Alberta Surface Waters.

Epcor has summarized pesticide data in its source water protection plan. An Overview Of Pesticide Data In Alberta Surface Waters Since 1995 can be found here.

Within the Alberta WaterPortal one can find information on contaminants of emerging concern (CECs), including pharmaceuticals in the environment, personal care products (PPCPs), endocrine disrupting compounds (EDCs), poly-aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs)

The City of Edmonton, along with partners, conducts an annual Environmental Monitoring Program which includes monitoring of the North Saskatchewan River and of discharges into the River.

Wetlands Strategy

The NSWA released their wetlands strategy on February 2024 here. The strategy was approved by the Steering Committees of the subwatershed alliances, including the Headwaters Alliance, the Sturgeon River Watershed Alliance, the Vermilion River Watershed Alliance, and the NSWA Executive Committee. City of Edmonton also has a Wetlands Strategy

Swim Drink Fish

ERVCC partners with Swim Drink Fish (SDF) and we promote their Edmonton’s Hub Water Quality Monitoring on the NSR. Here is an infographic below summarizing the work from summer of 2023. Visit their website to learn how they test the water. SDF is hiring a full time coordinator for Edmonton and they will continue to update these results in 2024.
